Family Resolution Centre Guide

MyLawBC’s Family Resolution Centre helps you and the other parent work with a free mediator to create a parenting plan that’s in the best interest of your children.

Overview

First, register with the Family Resolution Centre. Then you’ll choose what you want your parenting plan to say from a selection of options. Choose the options you think work best for your child.

If you'd like help before either of you have proposed your parenting plan, ask for a coach to help you get started or unstuck. Your coach will be a fully qualified family law mediator. Please note, you can still have a mediator help you after you both propose a parenting plan. It will be a different mediator than your coach, so you can be assured of neutrality in helping you reach agreement.

After you've proposed your ideas for a parenting plan, the other parent is invited. They can agree with your decisions, or can choose different options. You can negotiate with them in a chat room.

If you don’t agree on every option, you can ask for a mediator to help you and the other parent come to an agreement. There’s a private chat room just for you and your mediator, and a shared chat room where you can also chat with the other parent and your mediator together.

Once you agree about every issue, you can download your parenting plan.

TIP: Your work is saved along the way. You don’t need to do it all in one sitting. Take some time to relax and reflect on what you want to get out of this process.
